Businesses Gets Support for Priorities

By Barbra Fairclough

The Shuswap Economic Development Society (SEDS) Work Plan includes development of Business Camps to support and foster workforce development, business expansion and retention. Elevate Your Business Series begins in April.

Needs were identified by survey. Fifty respondents answered survey questions in response to the question, “What are the top three topics of interest?”

Business development came out on top with 64% of respondents indicating this as the number one priority. Digital Marketing and digital emergency preparedness was second with 56% of respondents and Finance was indicated by 46% or respondents.

Indigenous sensitivity; Human resources (training, attraction, retention, diversity, equity, inclusiveness), communication, leadership, and presentation skills; succession planning; cyber security awareness and risk mitigation are all among the other interest areas included in the survey.

In person workshops are planned at the South Shuswap Library (ORL Branch) in Blind Bay and will also be broadcasted live for those who prefer to join virtually.

John Reed Executive Director (SEDS) says, “Based on input it is just the start of this type of programming.” John indicates this process will lead to networking, collaborating, and identifying other opportunities.” How do we foster a dynamic business community?”

Beginning Tuesday April 11 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, six workshops will run once per month until November. The April workshop will be Digital Marketing 101. Scheduled in the following months will be Brand Identity, Content Pillars, Instagram Basics, Social Media Marketing and Content Marketing.

John says “We are excited to have the opportunity to work with the local business communities. This process is iterative and will support collaborating listening and learning and our strategic plan was based on public engagement. The plan is a living breathing text delivering tangible benefits based on community input.”

“Based on input it is just the start of this type of programming.”

More workshops will be available so stay tuned for updates. Follow SEDS on Facebook for emerging information.
