November Highlights & December Delights: Cedar Heights Community News!

Media Release

November was a busy month at Cedar Heights, with our Fall General Meeting on the 6th. Our review of the year to date showed the financial and operational results up to the wildfire crisis in mid-August. Despite that setback we were able to present a positive budgetary forecast for 2024. Following that, members elected our new Board of Directors. We were happy to recruit 2 new Directors this year, Blair Holmes as VP and Mark Minnie as Director at Large. In combination with 2 new Directors last year, we are well-positioned for stable governance to continue our evolution into the future.

On November 11th our President took part in the Remembrance Day event in Sorrento, laying a wreath in recognition of the sacrifices our veterans made to preserve our way of life. Given the current situation in Europe and the Middle East this was a poignant reminder of how fortunate we are to be living here in peace and security. Susan Aylard played ‘The Last Post’ on her violin at the service which was unusual, but so beautiful.

Now that December has arrived, our attention shifts to the holiday season. It started at Cedar Heights with our 23rd Kids Only Shopping event on December 2nd. This is where our members donate large numbers of items in good condition for kids to buy for under $5 for their families, and pets. It’s a wonderful event, with parents sipping coffee upstairs while their kids are shepherded around the downstairs by our ‘elves’ who help them choose gifts that are wrapped by our volunteers. Each year the funds raised are donated to children and family organizations that provide vital support to local families in need at Christmas time. Another example of how our community association makes this such a wonderful place to live.

On December 4th we hold our annual Christmas Dinner for members and guests. It is always sold out as simply don’t have the capacity to accommodate everyone who wants to attend. It is a dinner and dance to remember.

Saturday, December 9th is our famous Bake Sale, where members donate tons of goodies to sell to eager folks who come from as far away as Salmon Arm and Chase to score extraordinary Christmas baking. This is another highly successful fundraiser for Cedar Heights. Come early to avoid disappointment. The best stuff goes first, but it’s all good.

The next night, on Sunday, December 10th at 6:30 we will have the second Doghouse event. The first one, in November was a great hit. This is a really fun board game for players of all experience levels can play that has returned after many years. We only have so many boards, so phone Vicki Coe at (250-675-2141) if you are planning to attend. Check our website for details at www.cedarheightscommunity.ca

Finally on Saturday December 16th we will be holding another Shed Party at 7:00 pm. This is always a great evening of entertainment that will get you in the spirit of Christmas. So if you can sing, play an instrument or just want to listen to all your favorite carols and some new ones, come out and have fun.

Lastly, we want to thank the Scoop’s publishers and staff for their continued support of community associations all year and Happy Holidays to all.
