Bush Creek East Wildfire Update August 29, 2023

BCWS Media Release August 29, 2023 6:00PM

🔥 BC Wildfire Service 🔥 Update August 29, 2023 6:00pm WEATHER AND GENERAL FIRE BEHAVIOUR...

Fire behaviour in the Adams lake complex has increased slightly today, but the predicted winds have not yet increased significantly.  Higher elevations have seen some increase in winds and are generally warmer and drier due to  temperature inversions, resulting in more active fire at these higher elevations.  However, no major growth has occurred on either of the fires within the complex.

Winds are still forecast to increase through the night and into tomorrow, and residents are reminded to stay on high alert.   If you are on an evacuation alert area, you must be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.

K21633 Bush Creek East:

The Bush Creek East wildfire is highly visible from the Turtle Valley area, as it is currently burning off within an open fuel type on a  warm, dry ridgetop. Unless winds increase dramatically, the fire in this area is not expected to grow significantly or further increase in intensity.  Structural protection engines will patrol this area throughout the day and into the night.  Temperatures are expected to be cooler tomorrow and humidities should increase throughout the day.

The flank of the Bush Creek East fire closest to the community of Sorrento is active this afternoon, as daily temperatures increase and humidities decrease. Under current conditions, the fire is expected to continue to move slowly downhill, but the fire intensity is not expected to increase significantly if the winds remain relatively light. Helicopters will continue to apply buckets of water onto this flank in an effort to cool and slow the fire. Crews will be patrolling the lower flank of the fire, and a task force of structural fire engines will be patrolling within the community of Sorrento throughout the day and into the night.  Residents should expect to see active fire through the evening and into the night.
