Volunteers Step Up to Avert Blind Bay Hall Closure
By Barbra Fairclough
The Blind Bay Community Society held an emergency community meeting on October 3, to discuss the future of the society. Their Facebook postings indicated a need for more directors and members without which there was a possibility of closing the hall as early as November 30. At this community meeting several people volunteered to participate.
The Blind Bay Community Association subsequently held their AGM on November 12 with seven officers acclaimed. At the first meeting of the new board the following positions were determined: Tina Almond; President, Caryn Stewart; Vice President, Eva Lowey; Secretary, Susanne Parent; Treasurer, Leona Stewart; Events, Rosalind Carter; Public Relations, Kirsten Chapman; Artistry, Phil Stewart; Community Outreach and Patti Glynn; Rentals.
In response to input at the community meeting, the newly appointed board will be forming a Capital Expenditures Strategic Planning Committee. Tina Almond suggested at the AGM the work of the committee will enable them to set 1–5-year goals for hall improvements.
Tina confirms, “We are confident we will be able to maintain the hall and all of the operational expenses that come with having a physical presence in the community. The new board is excited about increasing community involvement and hosting more community events that can pull the community together.”
The board will also be establishing a Planning Committee that will assist in setting the fundraising goals for 2025. “We hope to have more dances in the future as well as coffeehouse / music house events, bingos and much more.” says Tina.
